Stop! Think! Take a close look at the title and the sender before you open that mail . If you don’t know the sender don’t open it. delete it. Many of us have online banking if you get a email that looks like it from your bank or credit card company asking to verify your account information don’t do it. Most bank will never ask for your password or Id or information regarding your account in e-mail. If your not sure and feel its important call your bank first.
Never offer any information in an e mail concerning your personal information that could be used to access information like SS number, Bank or credit card Numbers. This type of information should only be done on a secure sight that you know and trust.
If your one that does purchase products online it would be good for you to look into purchasing a membership with LifeLock Identity Theft Prevention
Some good email programs that are safer then others: Be careful using MS Outlook try using Mozilla,s thunder-bird or Pegasus I use Thunderbird from Mozilla its a freeware program under the Open Source License. Using a web base email is a good way to prevent virus infections as well. G-mail Yahoo or your Internet service providers web mail is workable.
Install an anti virus program. I rec0mined AVG 8.5 and if money is the reason you don’t have anti virus AVG offers a personal single use for free called AVG Free. You will want the full program after a while. Norton, McAfee, Micro trend are good anti virus programs as well. Anti Virus software is a must for any computer that’s online . It doesn’t take more then a few second to be infected if your online and have no Virus protection.
Install anti Spy ware software Not only will help keep your computer from harm it well insure that your computer is running at its top performance . Anti spy ware will help clean your system of cookies that are install from surfing the net most web page today have some kind of cookie that is installed in your Browser temp files (This is not always a bad thing in many cases it for a smoother page operation or java scripting needs) Some anti spy-ware that I use is Spy-bot’s Search and Destroy, an open source software free to use and update are free as well. Ad-ware is another good spy ware program. Pc -tools is an excellent software program and cost little for what it does.
Do not use disks from other people You have a friend who wants to share a video or software game they think is really cool right? Well your tempted but you don’t have any Idea whats on that disk that was copied from there computer. Its possible they may have a virus they don’t know is there and has just transferred it unknowingly to the disk they just handed you. Ok so I’m not trying to set total miss trust here but just want you to think about what you do when using disk from other people. you can run a virus scan on the disk before using. Make sure to turn off any auto run programs before you insert the disk so it does not try to open before you scan the disk. Now just a note not all Av programs are 100% OK (Just a little more para-no-ya.)
Keep your Windows Up to date Turn on your automatic updates and fallow up on a timly bases that6 updates are being installed . If your not sure that your windows is up to date go to Windows up date and run a check. VERY IMPORTANT WITH WINDOWS FOR PC. Mac and Linux users Sorry I’m a PC but keeping your OS up to date is important too.
If your a Linux or Mac user and have any input please!
I welcome you to share.

BE careful when Browsing the internet: Consider using a different browser that offers a more secure connection then the standard browser that comes with MS windows. I like Firefox from Mozilla. There is Google’s Chrome witch is nice and Opera. Many people find these to be more secure and flexible I find that fire fox is faster and Google chrome too.
If you get a site asking to install a program or active X Java script, say No unless you know the sight and trust it. Stay away from pron sites they are just begging to infect your computer with Malicious or virus programs nuff said. Pop ups again if you don’t know the site and a pop up happen don’t click it find the close button or go Control alt Delete to open your manager on the first tab you will see the pop up high lite and click end task. just be careful some pop ups are tearable no matter where you click they open up an unwanted sight or infect your computer.
