For years I struggled with the concept of designing and building even the most basic of websites, spending countless hours trawling the net in search of tips on how speed up the process. Finally I came up with a simple plan based on the knowledge and experience I gained on my journey. Hopefully, this will serve as a template for you if you want to make your own website.

1. Decide on your topic.

It might be that you want to build a website about your favorite hobby or pastime. If this is the case, you will already have enough knowledge to use as a basis for your website. Grab a pen and paper and start jotting down what you think others would like to see on your website. Don’t be swayed by your own personal views on the topic, try to cater for the broader audience. The more variety you have, the more appeal your site will have.

However, if your intentions are to build a website about another topic, perhaps for financial gain, then it is vital that you take full advantage of the Internet and fully research your chosen topic. This would involve spending a couple of hours thoroughly searching for points of interest, using forums, article websites, Google and newsgroups.

2. Choose a platform.

There are literally 100′s of options for you to choose from when deciding on what kind of website you would like to use. At that point you’ve spent a fair amount of time developing your own website and you hate to walk away from all of that work. The way your site is set up you can’t take it with you, so you quickly realize that it’s much easier to pay the $29.99 per month for their premium service. And they’ve got another paying customer!

If that’s the way you want to go, then I’d suggest planning up front to paying whatever the premium monthly fee is. More than likely you’ll need it if you’re serious about your website.

• How much time passes before I see anything?

Try this suggestion yourself and then try to enlist the help of some of your friends. The more people you have to test your web site, the more thorough your results will be.

Ideally, the site should load top to bottom and left to right. However, your design should adhere to the reading habits of your target audience. Some countries read from right to left so, make sure you know your audience. Also, the most eye-catching elements should load first. Once these load, they will grab the visitor’s attention. Then, the rest of the page can finish loading.

What Graphics Format Should I Use?
This is probably one of the most overlooked aspects of web design. How many times have you visited a web site and cringed at the slow loading pictures. I’ll bet you did not stick around to see everything load.

In most cases, web sites that have this problem were created by someone who bought a Web Design How-To book, created a web page that says “Hello World” and now think they are an expert. Or, possibly they are learning web design and created this slow loading site as a favor for a friend or family member. In order to take full advantage of this feature, you will need a graphics program which will allow you to preview the image after you have compressed it. Some of the more popular graphics programs are Photoshop, Fireworks and Corel Draw.

JPG is not a good format for images with only a few colors or for text created as an image. The finished image will be of poor quality.

More about the .GIF file format:
.GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) support up to 256 colors. It also supports “transparency” which allows you to specify the background of the image to be invisible, thereby letting the web page colors show through.

Graphics in this format are also “looseless”, meaning the final quality is not adversly affected by compressing.

Boiling it Down.
For the most part, here is a good way to determine what format you should use for the graphics on your web site:

• If your graphic has many colors (such as a photo) use .JPG as the format, However, make sure that the file size is not so large that it prevents the web page from loading quickly. Find a good balance between image quality and file size.

• If your graphic has only a few colors (such as a chart) use .GIF as the format.

Of course, this is somewhat oversimplifying the very important role of graphics in your web site design. If you hire a professional web design company to create your web presence, he or she should follow these guidelines during the design process. You should make sure that the rough drafts you receive from the designer adhere to good design standards.

Make Them Want More.
Of course, no matter how well organized your web site is and how effective it is at grabbing the visitor’s attention, they have to view your web site as important. You have to give them reasons to stay and browse your site, to bookmark your site so they can refer to it again and to tell others about your site so you can build new visitors.

My computer is running slow! How can I fix it?

IF your computer is slow try some these Ideas to help speed it up. Start by cleaning out your recycling bin. Many times we delete an item like a document we no longer need thinking its gone but its still in your Recycling bin waiting to be permanently deleted. To do this just simple right click on your recycle bin icon and select empty bin.

What happens from browsing the Internet?
This is one thing that can in a short time really cause a computer slow down.  When we surf the net our browser will keep a snap shot of the pages we go to in a temp file. This helps speed up or browsing experience and cookies are downloaded from sits to identify shopping and browsing experience as well as asset in running flash or java script applications.Your computer slows over time from this temp file becoming so big that it requires more search time. to help prevent your computer slow down you can set your browser to delete these file on exit or you can do so manually or at the lest limit the amount of temp space allowed for storing page history.( Now remember the page history does help with fast execution of the pages you visit by updating the old page not downloading a new page with each visit). So some space for this is good. To make changes in your browser simple click on tools, then click on options. Now in the taps on the first screen you see there is an option to delete or view stored files. click on delete all, this well empty your temp file speeding up your computer because now you have decreased the search time needed.

My computer slow down is better but still running slower then I like.

OK so we have made some setting and cleaned up areas we needed to,Now what?

Well now we want to use the windows disk clean utility this well safely remove old archived update files that are taking up needed space and old setup files held in the windows temp file. To do this click on start, click on programs, then click on accessories mouse over to system tools and then click on Disc clean up. Let this run and it can take some time so go get a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and relax a bit.

OK So that’s done and thing are running even better.. But where not quit there yet!

Removing Temporary Files from Browser

Now what you want to do is click on the radio button Delete browsing history on exit Then lets click on Delete button. This well bring up this next screen.

Now here you have several option I would for the first time is go a head and click on the radio buttons for Temporary Internet files,cookies,history and,form data. No you can go ahead a click the passwords and in-private filter data but this well erase any information you have storied like passwords to you bank account social net working log-ins and so on. You can all ways re save as you go. But not necessary to delete for what we are trying to accomplish here. OK so click on Delete and wait until done. Then we can click out of this and we have cleared your browser Temporary files.

Lets go back to the first screen on the Internet Options property screen and click on settings we are going decrease if necessary the amount of space that explore can use.

OK here we can sett how much explore is allowed to save 50 mb is OK but you may want to change the history day to 3 or 4 The default of 20 days is a lot of needless info being stored in your temp file. Click OK and were done with this project.
